SEEING IS BELIEVING

The portion of Re’eh begins with Moses presenting the nation with a choice (Deut. 11:26): “See, I set before you today a blessing and a curse.”

The word used to introduce the passage — “Re’eh” — is out of place. No person can “see” blessings or curses; these concepts are not visible objects.

Many of the commentaries address this and various others anomalies in the opening verse, offering a variety of remarkable interpretations that reveal depth and wisdom far beyond the basic meaning of the words.
