THE PROBLEM WITH THE TOWER OF BABEL

November 10th, 2016

What’s the deal with the strange story of the ‘Tower of Babel’?

The version we are all familiar with seems to be at odds with the plain understanding of the text, and any way you look at it, the story makes very little sense.

The questions are numerous. What did those who built the Tower actually do wrong? The word ‘sin’ is never used once, so who says they sinned at all? Why would God care if a bunch of clowns are trying to reach the ‘heavens’ via a tower? And what is the significance of the one language they spoke at the beginning of the story, and the multiple languages mentioned at the end of the story?

Rabbi Dunner answers these questions, and many others, to reveal a subtext that is compelling, and which offers an incredible insight into how God wanted humanity to unfold at the very dawn of human history.
