PIRKEI AVOT 8 – FIND YOURSELF A “RAV”

Rabbi Dunner begins his examination of the sixth mishna in the first chapter of Pirkei Avot by introducing us to Rabbi Yehoshua ben Perachia. Rabbi Dunner explains how this great rabbi’s oft-cited association with Jesus as the teacher who rejected him, based on a famous narrative in Masechet Sotah (47a), is actually a case of mistaken identity.

Rabbi Dunner then goes on to offer a full backdrop to Rabbi Yehoshua ben Perachia’s three-part advice and guidance, which is probably the most famous of all the directives in Pirkei Avot.
