JUDAISM ON TRIAL – THE BARCELONA DISPUTATION OF 1263

One of the most fascinating and dramatic episodes to have occurred during medieval times was the public debate between the Ramban, one of the greatest rabbis of his day, and Pablo Christiani, a Jewish convert to Christianity.

Determined to prove that Judaism had accepted Jesus as the Messiah and that all Jews should become Christians, Christiani battled it out with the Ramban for four days, under the watchful eye of King James of Aragon.

Rabbi Dunner weaves together different strands of the story, offering a compelling account of this epic debate, as well as the personalities of those involved.
