THE GREATEST THING HE EVER DID

March 5th, 2021

Rabbi Dunner examines a Midrash on a passage at the very end of the Torah. The Midrash says that the main reason Moshe Rabbeinu was so great was because he broke the Luchot, as recorded in Parshat Ki Tissa.

But what was so great about that? Moshe led the Jewish nation out of Egypt accompanied by miracles and wonders, he crossed them through the Red Sea and to the foot of Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, he led them into battle against external enemies and enemies within — how is it possible that breaking the Luchot is considered greater than all of those things?

Citing a beautiful insight from Rabbi Mordechai Rogow z”l of Chicago, Rabbi Dunner explains this mystifying Midrash, and as it turns out, the Midrash offers us all a powerful lesson as to how we should live our lives even in the most challenging circumstances.
