WHY DID ABRAHAM REMONSTRATE WITH GOD

October 16th, 2015

As Abraham’s visitors departed for Sodom, God reflected aloud that he had not yet told Abraham about his plans for this wicked city and its neighbors. Upon hearing of God’s plans Abraham responds by trying to convince Him that in the merit of the righteous the wicked should be saved.

What was really going on here? Why would God need to inform Abraham of his intentions, and why would Abraham even care about the fate of Sodom? These questions, and many more, emerge from the text of the narrative.

Rabbi Dunner unravels the story to reveal a far-reaching purpose in Avraham’s advocacy that had nothing to do with Sodom, and everything to do with how the existence of good is directly related to the existence of evil.
