UNDERSTANDING THE MYSTERIOUS CHERUBS

February 6th, 2019

Parshat Terumah contains the instructions for the construction of the “Mishkan” sanctuary and its vessels.

The Ark of the Covenant was the most sanctified of these vessels, to be housed in the sanctuary’s “Holy of Holies” chamber. Its top was adorned with two cherubs – “keruvim” in Hebrew – a pair of winged statuettes.

What were these statuettes, and what message did they project? Surely the Ten Commandments prohibit any graven images?

Rabbi Dunner reveals the manifold secrets behind these sacred statuettes, offering a glimpse into the heart of Judaism’s most precious religious artifact.
