One of the most astounding events in the Torah is when Moses took the “Luchot,” the Tablets of Stone he’d received from God, and smashed them onto the ground, after witnessing the sin of the Golden Calf. The Medrash informs us that Aaron and the Elders tried to stop him, but they failed.
Why did Moses smash the “Luchot” and overrule his brother? How did he know he was right? Rabbi Dunner offers a compelling explanation.
