THE RABBINIC GIANT YOU’VE NEVER HEARD OF

May 13th, 2020

Rabbi Dunner Zoom’s with Isaac Herzog, Chairman of the Jewish Agency, to talk about his great-grandfather Rabbi Shmuel Yitzchok Hillman (1868-1953), the subject of Rabbi Dunner’s latest book, an annotated republication of Rabbi Hillman’s sermons and addresses, with a newly-written biography based on original research and extensive archive discoveries.

The Herzog family is best known for the illustrious Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Halevi Herzog (1888-1959), first Chief Rabbi of Israel, as well as his son, Chaim Herzog (1918-1997), sixth president of Israel. But the family’s prominence in Israel was in no small way due to Rabbi Hillman’s tireless efforts and foresight as a trailblazer and activist.

Rabbi Dunner and Isaac Herzog explore the life story of this unusual Jewish leader and rabbinic scholar, as well as the life of his extraordinary family, in a discussion that is both fascinating and revealing.
