The Book of Devarim (Deuteronomy) begins with a phrase the Talmudic sages interpret to mean that Moshe rebuked the Jewish nation.

What was the nature of this rebuke? What role does rebuke play in Jewish tradition, both in terms of the “rebuker” and the “rebukee”? How should one respond to rebuke?
