MOSHE AND THE WATER DISPENSING ROCK

July 14th, 2016

In this shiur Rabbi Dunner closely examines the sad episode of Mei Meriva – when an encounter between Moshe and a water-giving rock somehow resulted in both him and Aharon being refused entry into the Land of Canaan.

No one can agree what exactly they did wrong, nor why they were punished so harshly.

Rabbi Dunner looks at the three separate records of this incident in the Torah – one in Chukat, one in Devarim, and the last in Haazinu – and also goes through what some of the commentators have to say about this tragic event.

Finally, he explores the inexplicable connection made by Moshe between this incident and the earlier seemingly unconnected episode of the Meraglim.
