Hidden away in the portion of Masei is one of the most important directives of the whole Torah – the instruction for the Jewish nation to take possession of the Promised Land, and to physically take the land from the nations that live there.

What are the implications of this directive more than 3,000 years later?

Rabbi Dunner looks at the verses in Masei (Num. 33:50-56), before examing Talmudic sources, classic commentators, and modern rabbinic opinion, in a survey of our obligations towards the Land of Israel, particularly in terms of sovereignty and national identity.
